The Housing Group, which has also built under
the names of its subsidiaries, JMM Homes and
Turnberry Properties, has been in business 25
years serving the needs of metro Atlanta families.
Building partners Michael Ray and James MacDowell
have built thousands of homes during their long
and distinguished building careers. They have
won numerous local and national residential building
awards, including gold and silver Professionalism
Awards by the Greater Atlanta Home Builder’s
Association (GAHBA) and, in 2003, the Best in
American Living Award for homes in Village Walk
of East Atlanta.
“We want our homes to
leave a lasting impression on the neighborhoods
we build in,” explained Michael Ray. “We
try to be unique in the houses we build, the
quality we provide, and the personalized service
we offer every home buyer.”
The Housing
Group has built in many of metro Atlanta’s
most popular neighborhoods, including Hamilton
Mill, Windermere, Windward, the Polo Fields,
Crooked Creek, Chapel Hills Golf and Country

that would become a nationally ranked top 10

35 years in the industry. “We want our
communities to leave a lasting impression on
the neighborhoods we build in and we believe
in leaving an area in better shape than when
we began the building process.”
James MacDowell

has 25+ years’ building experience. He
works constantly to stay up on the latest building
trends and systems. James regularly takes classes
offered by the GAHBA and is a certified building

job is meeting with customers.
“We get
personally involved in every sale. Our customers
seem to appreciate this. People want to know
we’re accessible and have a good reputation
in your field. It’s a big investment
and home buyers deserve to have their questions
answered directly from either Michael or myself

Laughing Sun Renovations, LLC
Them: Paula Rose and Kara O'Brien About have
been restoring, building, and adding on to properties
since 1997. Laughing Sun was born upon the desire
to restore old houses back to their original
grandeur. At the beginning, Kara and Paula purchased
old run down homes with the goal to save and
enhance the architectural details: the old windows,
doors, floors, mantels, and heavy woodwork. If
these touches were missing, they weren't afraid
to add the architecturals back into the house.
They've installed heart fir flooring from a century-old
North Carolina schoolhouse, framed in brilliant
Victorian stained glass from upstate New York,
hung ornately carved mantels from Philadelphia,
and plumbed clawfooted tubs from Georgia. The
end result is a stunning historic piece of architecture
unlike most anything constructed today. Literally
building upon that desire, Kara and Paula expanded
their business by helping neighbors and Atlantans
to maximize their floor plans, add lovely spaces
such a grand kitchens and master suites, and
infuse beauty and uniqueness to their homes.
By keeping the business small and intimate, clients
get one-on-one attention and the careful finishing
and details are not overlooked. Handcrafted workmanship
is our specialty. For examples of our work, please

Noel Khalil Homes
Since founding Columbia Residential in 1991,
Noel Khalil has built 20 developments, each
earning him high praise from industry organizations
and residents alike. The ideology exemplified
in all these projects, and in Columbia Residential
itself, is Noel’s vision for creating
vibrant and inviting communities.
A prime example
is West Highlands, a thriving community that
has created a renaissance where once stood
Perry Homes, “a blighted public
housing neighborhood surrounded by landfills
and railroad tracks that was a 15-minute drive
from downtown. All that’s gone now. In
its place stands the city’s boldest mixed
use, mixed income redevelopment and it’s
attracting many families and businesses.
An
innovative development, West Highlands has
garnered regional and national recognition.
In 2005, the community won recognition from
the Atlanta Regional Commission for Excellence
in Regional Development. Additionally, Columbia
Estates at West Highlands has been recognized
by the National Association of Home Builders
with its prestigious Pillars of the Industry
Award.
To bring the same caliber of design and
expertise to his new venture, Noel Khalil Homes,
Noel has formed a partnership with Betty Gomez,
a visionary Atlanta homebuilder since 1998.
Certified by International Code Council, Betty
has built over 40 custom homes, many in historic
neighborhoods throughout Atlanta. Each home
represents Betty’s expert eye for the
finest craftsmanship and the sophisticated
finishes discerning homebuyers seek and deserve. >>please

Jim Hornsby
As a native Georgian, Jim Hornsby builds homes
with Georgians in mind. He began building homes
in East Point in the 1990’s, where he
became known to his buyers and real estate
agents as the "sensitive builder".
Jim’s reputation as a builder who is
sensitive to the needs of the home buyer spread
through each of his projects. Host Properties
was founded with a specific purpose: build
quality homes at a reasonable price. He likes
working with the buyers and is conscious of
performing not only during construction but
after the construction is complete and the
buyers have moved into their new home.
A lot of
builders fall short on performance after closing.
Jim strives to overcome that stereotype and
ensure his buyers are happy for as long as
they own one of his homes. Current Project:
Connally
Grove Townhomes
in East Point Georgia.
